Ms. Janette Fischer (Board Member)

Ms. Janette Fischer was born in Munich, Germany to a mother who was prescribed Thalidomide but flushed it down the toilet instead of swallowing it. Consequently, Janette has not personally suffered the detrimental long-bone growth issues that many of her German peer-group have. She was an Army brat, emigrating from Europe to the US, then moving to Iran, and then back to the US again. All that moving gave her an appreciation for other cultures, other foods (maybe too much so), different philosophies, and the arts and music of the world. She loves reading and learning new things. She writes and teaches, predominantly about science. She has a BA in the Liberal Arts (Philosophy) from St. John’s College in New Mexico; a Master’s in Education from University of New Mexico; and a Ph. D. in Biology from Indiana University. Importantly, Janette has a house full of furry-loves: Honey Pie and Heaven, Rollo and Murphy (all dogs), and Gabrielle, Raphael, Sancho, Matilda, Theo, and Moth (all cats).(She also has several tanks with amphibians in them, but won’t abuse your patience by listing all their names here.) Autumn is her favorite season, and she LOVES chocolate.
